Yonghe Gong, the Palace of Peace and Harmony, or Yonghe Lamasery, also known as the Lama Temple, is the largest and most preserved Tibetan Lamasary in Beijing. It was built in 1694 (Qing Dynasty) and was the residence of Emperor Yongzheng and Qianlong. In 1744, Emperor Qianlong ordered Yonghe Gong to be changed into a lamasery.

Yonghe Gong is located at the junction of Yonghe Gong street and the 2nd. ring road, Dongcheng District of Beijing. The complex runs to 480 meters from north to south, covers an area of about 66,400 square meters (16 acres). The buildings and the artworks of the temple combine Han and Tibetan architectural styles.

Key building (from south to north): Gateways (Paifangs), Gate of Peace Declaration (Zhaotai Men), Hall of the Heavenly Kings (TianWang Dian), Hall of Harmony and Peace (Yonghegong Dian), Hall of Everlasting Protection (Yongyou Dian), Hall of the Wheel of the Law (Falun Dian) and the Pavilion of Ten Thousand Happinesses (Wanfu Ge).

The halls of Yonghe Gong worshipped many Buddhist statues, Tangka and many precious relics. These include sandlewood sculpture of the Mountain of 500 Arhats, golden nanmu sculpture of the Buddha niche and the 18 meter high sandlewood Buddha statue. The statue of Maitreya Buddha is housed in the Wanfu Ge. It is said that it was carved from a single piece of white sandalwood lumber offered by the seventh Dalai Lama.
