As the destination of subway no.1, Nanjing Olympic Sports Center lies in the southwest of the central area of Hexi new urban district. It covers a floor area of 89.6 hectares and a total building area of 401 thousand square meters, the construction of which took a total investment of 4 billion and formally began on August 18, 2002, finished at the end of 2004. On May 1, 2005, it was put into service. The Center mainly consists of main stadium, warming-up site, gymnasium, natatorium, press center, tennis center, baseball field, softball field, sports park and auxiliary projects such as traffic engineering, environment landscape, energy center and so on. The five big venues of Olympic Center are centered around the stadium as a whole and have a audience capacity of 87 thousand (62 thousand of main stadium, 13thousand of gymnasium, 4 thousand of natatorium, 8 thousand of tennis center).It was the biggest stadium before Beijing Olympic Games of 2008 as well as the main center for the Tenth National Games of 2005.
