Home: Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge
Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge is built in1968, which is the first road rail bridge over Yangtze River that designed and built by China. The road bridge is 4589 meters long with 15 meters broad roadway and more than 2 meters footpath on both sides. The roadway is available for four large cars parallel running. The rail bridge is 6772 meters long and 14 meters broad and laid with two rails that allow two trains simultaneous opposite operation. The main bridge is 1577 meters long, and the rest part is the approach. There are two pairs of bridge towers on both ends of the bridge. They are 70 meters high, and each has three red flags and a statue of five people on it. The flags represent the People Commune, Great Leap Forward and General Line of 1950s.The five people represent five main parts of Chinese society of that time, which are workers, farmers, soldiers, students and merchants. They represent the solidary hard-working spirit to reform by all holding the Five-stared Red Flag red flag and striding forward tall. There lies Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge Park under the south bridge and exhibition building that makes introduction about the history of the bridge, together with elevators that directly lead to bridge towers on the bridge deck.
