Shenzhen Travel Guide

Shenzhen is located in the southern portion of the Guangdong Province, situated just north of Hong Kong. It is the second busiest port in mainland China, ranking only after Shanghai. In 1980 the area became China's first Special Economic Zone. It is now reputedly one of the fastest growing cities in the world.

The municipality's total area is 2,050 square kilometers, with a total population of 8.61 million. Shenzhen has a mild climate as well as plentiful sunshine and rainfall all year round, long but not overly hot summers and short but relatively warm winters.

Shenzhen is southern China's major financial centre, it is home to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, the production and research base as well as the commodities trade center of high-tech products.

Shenzhen has jurisdiction over seven districts: Luohu, Futian, Nanshan, Yantian (these 4 districts are Special Economic Zone), Bao'an, Guangming and Longgang.
